An Se Young, the world's top-ranked women's badminton player, has won an international tournament in Shenzhen, China.
At the Badminton World Federation's World Tour Super 750 China Masters, the gold medalist of the Paris Summer Olympics on Nov. 24 defeated world No. 28 Gao Fang Jie of China in straight sets at Shenzhen Arena.
Earlier that day, An advanced to the final with a 2-0 quarterfinal victory over China’s Zhang Yi Man and a 2-0 semifinal win over Japan’s Tomoka Miyazaki. With her 2-0 triumph over Gao, An regained the women's top ranking in world badminton.
In table tennis, the under-19 girls' table tennis squad on the same day won the team event at the International Table Tennis Federation's (ITTF) World Youth Championship for the first time in the event's 21-year history.
Korea on Nov. 24 won the final in the Swedish city of Helsingborg. Led by Park Gahyeon, Choi Nahyun and Yoo Yerin, the team in the final rallied past Taiwan, 3-1.
Yoo lost the first match to Taiwan's Yeh Yi-Tian, 3-1, but Park in the second evened things up by beating Cheng Pusyuan, 3-2. Choi's 3-0 win over Chen Chi-Shiuan in the third match and Park's 3-1 victory over Yeh in the fourth clinched the championship.
