A government grant of USD 3 million will help Central Asian countries respond to climate change.

The Ministry of Economy and Finance on Nov. 10 said it signed a deal with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to launch the Climate and Sustainability Project Preparatory Fund at the Nov. 8 ministerial meeting of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation in Astana, Kazakhstan. From this year through 2026, Seoul will contribute USD 3 million to the fund.

Launched by the ADB, the fund seeks to assist preparation for projects in sectors like infrastructure, energy, water resources and agriculture. By using the fund, the ministry will support searches for infrastructure projects in Central Asia and stabilization of supply chains.

Moon Jisung, deputy director general of the ministry's International Finance Bureau, held talks with Kyrgyz government officials on expanding development and economic cooperation in supply chains for core minerals, renewable energy and transportation through Korea's Economic Development Cooperation Fund.
